Smiles For All 2023, our day of free dentistry, returns!

Updated: Jul 18

After a three-year hiatus due to COVID, on Sunday, October 8, 2023 we hosted our 7th "day of free dentistry" event called Smiles for All.

With the help of 62 volunteer dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, staff, patients, family and friends, we were able to provide over $61,000 in dentistry to 114 people in our Bay Area community.

Smiles For All provides a free cleaning, filling or extraction to patients 18 and above. We are grateful to all of our volunteers, our patients over the years for their support, and to this year's donors who generously provided clinical and operational supplies.

Two days to go: the South San Francisco Dental Care team gears up for Smiles For All! On the Friday and Saturday before Smiles For All, our staff and volunteers help to prepare the office and surrounding areas for the event.

Today's the day - rise and shine! All morning shift volunteers gather for a quick orientation (and some much needed caffeine).

AM shift volunteers ready to go!

At the registration line, patients line up for the treatment they are seeking. They can receive a cleaning, extraction or filling.

Patients pose for a quick photo with event signs graciously donated and designed by My Social Practice

While waiting for the initial health screening, patients can participate in various activities and games. Volunteers Mike (left) helped with Mandarin translation for Dr. Nida's (right) oral hygiene demonstrations

Although patients must be 18+, little ones are always welcome. They can come to play games, make arts and crafts and receive their own oral hygiene kit.

Dr. Phil, Dr. Choi, and Dr. Al welcome patients at the initial health screening station.

An initial health screening with a dentist helps us to determine the best treatment option for the patient.

Volunteers and staff members joined together to carry out each station's responsibilities. In the pre-treatment area, are checked in before their procedure.

In the treatment area, RDA Isabel was an all-star at keeping all procedures running smoothly and efficiently!

The sterilization team made sure all instruments and devices were properly and thoroughly disinfected so the dentists had all the tools they needed.

Our volunteer dentists worked non-stop from 8am to 5pm to make sure as many patients as possible could be seen!

Smile break!

Clean teeth are happy teeth! Megan, our hygienist, providing cleanings for the community.

Volunteer and dental student Morgan, assists Dr. Phil. In addition to giving back to the community, Smiles For All is a valuable time for pre-dental and dental school students to gain helpful exposure to dental procedures.

Dr. Behnaz and Dr. Halton Suen performed tooth extractions for patients. Dental volunteers came from all over the Bay Area to give their time and services.

Volunteers receive patients at the checkout station. Once finished with their treatment, patients receive an oral hygiene kit and resources for accessible dental services.

At the end of the day, volunteers enjoy a much-deserved pizza party.

Our PM shift volunteers held down the fort until the very end!

Community Impact. In total we have now provided $371,000 in free dentistry to 714 people in our community through our 7 Smiles for All events.

Dr. Behnaz created a great recap of the day.

Thank you again to all who participated. If you are interested in joining us next time, follow along for the latest updates!
